My Mission
My mission for Stitch Obsessed is simple. Proclaim it from the mountain tops that anyone can sew! As a self-taught sewist, I understand that coming into the sewing community and hearing the beautiful stories of how others have learned how to sew from their grandmothers and moms can feel slightly intimidating. That was not me. I was in my mid-twenties when I taught myself how to sew.
Stitch Obsessed will be a place where anyone can come to learn and explore sewing, whether you are a brand new beginner or 7th generation textile wizard. I hope to spread my love (and obsession) for sewing to everyone who stops by.
A Little About Me
Hi! I’m Miriam, and this is my story about how I found sewing.
Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be good at something creative. I knew I had it in me to be creative in some capacity; I just wasn’t sure how. I tried different art forms, including painting, drawing, music, and jewelry making. Though I was good at some things, I hadn’t found my passion.
Then it happened. My parents bought me a basic sewing machine when I was 25. I sat down in front of that machine and was determined to figure out how to use it properly. One of my first projects was an extremely basic quilt, and wow, when I had finished that wonky, not-so-straight quilt, I was obsessed!
Since then, I have become a professional quilter, making custom quilts all over the US and the world. I have written for multiple crafting blogs, created quilt patterns, worked with companies to write instructions for their sewing tools, and taught several tutorials for companies on how to use their products.
My life now revolves around sewing (and my dog), and I’m proud to say I have finally found my passion. I would LOVE to share that passion with you and show you that anyone can sew!
