Frogs are one of those overlooked creatures that are pretty adorable. But what is cuter than a real frog? A froggie plush, of course! They’re soft and green and remind us of Kermit the Frog.

We’re going to take a deep dive into the frog stuffed animal pattern world. We’ll go over the basics of how you can make a frog plush and look at some positively hoppin’ examples of plush frogs together.

How Do You Make a Stuffed Animal Frog?

If you’ve never made a stuffed animal before, putting together a frog might initially sound intimidating. Luckily for us, many pattern designers have the skills to break down step-by-step instructions and draft beautiful templates that we can use to create our plush frog toys.

Here are a few simple steps you will need to take to make a stuffed animal frog:

  • Choose a frog plush pattern– Find a design that will fit your skill level, and just go for it! Plushies can be fun to make, and gifting them afterward is even better.
  • Choose the fabric– Decide if you want to use plush soft fabric or sturdy wearable fabric like quilting cotton.
  • Cut out all the pieces– First, cut out the paper template pieces. Using the templates, cut out the fabric pieces. Pay close attention to any cutting instructions in the pattern.
  • Piece together the frog– Following the steps in the pattern, sew the pieces together. Ensure you leave a small hole in the seam to add the stuffing.
  • Stuff the frog-Using Polyfil or any other type of stuffing, stuff the frog to the desired firmness.
  • Finish the frog– Once the frog is adequately stuffed, stitch the open seam closed using an invisible stitch such as a ladder stitch. Enjoy your huggable frog!

How Do You Hand Sew a Frog?

Some frog stuffed animal pattern options will include instructions for hand-sewing the pieces together. If you have one that doesn’t, you can easily use hand stitching techniques instead of a sewing machine.

Here are a few basic hand-sewing stitches you should be familiar with:

  • Ladder stitch
  • Blanket stitch
  • Running stitch
  • Whipstitch

These four stitches will help you sew any basic stuffed animal frog patterns that we will be looking at today.
