15 Hoppin’ Bunny Plush Sewing Patterns Your Kids Will Love!

It’s no secret that stuffed animals make fantastic gifts, especially for kiddos. A classic stuffed animal that remains popular is the bunny rabbit. With their floppy ears and fluffy cottontails, bunnies are loved by everyone.

Two of the most popular children’s books dating back to the early 1900s are The Tale of Peter Rabbit and The Velveteen Rabbit. A tradition with the books was that children had stuffed animal rabbits that looked like their favorite characters.

We’re going to take a look at 15 different stuffed bunnies and go over the unique characteristics of each of them.

How Do You Make a Bunny Pattern?

Wouldn’t it be fun to take on the challenge of creating your bunny rabbit pattern instead of purchasing someone else’s design? Designing your patterns can be extremely rewarding.

Here is a trick I have used to create my patterns for stuffed animals or applique pieces. Go online and search for a simple bunny outline. You can also try searching “bunny silhouette.”

Download the outline of your choice and print it out. You may need to enlarge it if you want an oversized plush. After printing the shape, cut it out and label the front and the back.

Now let’s go over how to use this template to make a stuffed rabbit plush.

How Do You Make a Stuffed Animal Bunny?

These are pretty basic steps. If you purchase a pattern, the pattern designer will give more in-depth instructions on making their specific pattern. This list is just to give you an idea of what to expect.

  • Choose a pattern/template– There are many free and paid bunny patterns available online, or you can use my suggestion above to make a simple stuffed rabbit.
  • Cut out the fabric pieces– Follow the pattern instructions and cut out all necessary components.
  • Sew the fabric pieces together– You will sew the pieces together either by hand or by machine, leaving a small hole to stuff the rabbit before finishing.
  • Stuff the rabbit– using your choice of stuffing, stuff the animal. If you want a more firm plushie, you will use more filler. Don’t stuff it as full if you want a soft, cuddly bunny.
  • Sew the stuffing hole closed– Using an invisible stitch ( like a ladder stitch), sew the holes shut that you used to stuff the bunny. Your cute little bunny is complete!
